We think that we have 8 hours to work but in the practice that its not true, we usually have meetings, a ritual to start to work, social media to check, emails, have to go to he restroom, serve you coffee and the list goes on and on. The reality is that of your 8 hours of work you really have 6 or less of effective work because of all the interruptions mentioned above, and a little problem that usually we are not aware, the time that take us to get back on track after a distract
Based on that we are talking about 25 minutes to take back to work after and distraction, so consider an typical scenario you get to your work at 8am as usual, start you computer and check your email for 15 minutes, after that yo start your usually work by 8:15am and work, consider the gap of 25 minutes to start concentrate in what you have to do, looking for files, remember the request of you boss and then really stars working at 8:40am, but then you have a meeting at 9am you have to attend because everybody is gonna review something import about the business, so you really had worked 20 minutes.
Then after 1 hour of a meeting you want to continue to work at 10am but take u 25 minutes to focus again and starts working really, so rounded the hours you starts working by 10:30am then you realize that you have working for 2 hours and its 12:30am, you decide to check your facebook because your hard work before lunch, so 30 minutes wasted on facebook and then at 1pm it lunch time, usually 1 hour so you get back to work 2pm.
In this time you have worked 2 hours and 20 minutes efficiently, so you decide to concentrate and really work, but remember the 25 minutes of time for concentrate in your task so you start working again efficiently at 2:30pm and based of you full commitment no body will distract you until your departure time usually 5pm you will be achieved a efficient work time of 5 hours.
What I meant of all of this its to be aware that you journal time is full of distraction and we have to work the mos efficient we can to finish our task, and as a procrastinator guy I consider that we need to be aware of our really working time to avoid problems delivering our work that usually we estimate our times base in 8 hours but the really its that we only work less that 6 in the better case.
I really like this talk about procrastination and how our mind works in death-lines, so my advice is to trigger our panic monster realizing that we only have effectively 6 hours of work instead 8 and get the shit done before its to late
